Chimney Service in Branch County
Branch County sits on Michigan’s southern border with Indiana, with Coldwater as the county seat and the Coldwater chain of lakes running through its centre. It is predominantly agricultural, with small-town and rural housing making up most of the building stock.
Farm properties here frequently have more than one flue in service – a main house chimney plus a wood stove in a shop, garage or outbuilding. The outbuilding flue is the one that gets forgotten, and it is often the one running the dirtiest because shop stoves get fed whatever is on hand.
Wood Stove Flues on Branch County Properties
A stove burning construction offcuts, pallet wood or unseasoned hardwood produces substantially more creosote than one burning properly seasoned fuel, and shop stoves see more of the former than house stoves do. If you heat a workspace with wood, that flue needs sweeping on the same schedule as the house, not less often.
Southern Michigan’s milder winters can create a false sense of margin here. Fewer heating degree days means fewer burn hours, but it does not change what a cool, smouldering fire deposits on the flue wall per hour.
